Long story short, my steering rack has been going for some time now. I had all the common symptoms; mushy feeling steering, lots of steering play, almost no tightness in wheel. Last Monday, I shot an e-mail to Coz pricing out a new rack. $1200 New, $350 rebuilt. I decided to go rebuilt via Coz's recommendation. He shipped it next day Tuesday, it arrived Wednesday. Dropped the car off to Nissan Wednesday night for Am Thursday work. I am not too mechanically savvy and with the cold weather, dropping it off was just easier. I get the car back Friday night. What a difference a working steering rack makes. But I notice a thud coming from my passenger wheel every time I hit a bump. Today I pop the car up on the jacks and to my surprise, the nuts on the tension rod are only hand tight. During the alignment process some tech missed the tightening part of the process on the passenger side. Not sure what kind of damage could have been done if it had come completely undone. Needless to say I need another alignment and its on the house. I'd just like to finish by saying I have been going to this dealership since I owned my NA. I have always been very pleased with the work, although they can never seem to get my car back to me that day. I am not dealer bashing, but what a big time whoops.
